Hayward Rides set new standard for City support of cycling

The City of Hayward gave away more than 200 bikes in the fall of 2025, kicking off an initiative to expand access to cycling for high school student and lower income community members through of the largest municipal programs of its kinds in America.

As 2025 wound down to a close, the City of Hayward put the finishing touches on its transition to a new system of electing City Councilmembers. Starting with our next municipal election on Nov. 3, 2026, Councilmembers will be elected by geographic district rather than through citywide at-large elections.
