Hayward is setting a new standard for city responses to homelessness—and Hayward community members are invited to join in by participating in the upcoming biennial Alameda County Point in Time Count of people experiencing homelessness.
The Point in Time Count provides valuable data and information on our progress ending homelessness in Hayward. Data from the Count informs strategies and the funding of programs for providing access to supportive services and getting people into permanent housing.

Initiatives, projects and programs for responding to homelessness in Hayward that Point in Time Count findings have helped shape include the Hayward Navigation Center, which was established in November 2019 and has moved two-thirds of individuals served into permanent housing.
Others include Depot Community Apartments, a contemporary new residence of 125 micro units with wrap around services at 2595 Depot Road for individuals and two-person households who were either experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.
And just last week, the State of California announced the award of $9.6 million for a new initiative of the City of Hayward and partners Union City and nonprofit Bay Area Community Services (BACS) to purchase and operate single-family homes for people experiencing homelessness.
