Hazardous weather bulletin

With heavy rain and high winds in the forecast through Thursday morning, residents are encouraged to prepare for flooding and avoid or use extreme caution if traveling on highways, streets and sidewalks.

Pre-filled sandbags are available for community members to pick up outside the Hayward Animal Shelter at 16 Barnes Court—up to 10 per household or business—while supplies last. A self-fill sandbag station also will be available 24 hours a day.

To report urgent instances of flooding: call the Hayward Streets Division between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. at (510) 881-7745. After 4 p.m. up until 7 a.m., contact the Hayward Police Department non-emergency line at (510) 293-7000.

Calling 9-1-1 should be reserved only for medical emergencies or to report an urgent or emergency public health or safety risk.

To report downed or dangling power lines, call 9-1-1 immediately and then Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) at (800) 743-5000. Stay away from and don’t touch downed or dangling power lines.

As always, Hayward police, fire, emergency medical and maintenance services personnel will be actively monitoring and prioritizing calls for service. Responses to some less urgent matters may take longer than usual due to call volume.
