City of Hayward Earth Day Poster & Writing Contest


Submissions due by March 14


The City of Hayward is hosting the 42nd Annual Earth Day Poster and Writing Contest as part of Hayward’s celebration of Earth Day. All Hayward students are invited to submit a poster, poem, or essay inspired by the environment. 


The contest is accepting submissions until March 14th and two winners will be selected from each grade by judges from the Hayward Arts Council. Winners and winners' teachers will receive a gift certificate and an award at a Hayward City Council meeting in April.

Research Games with CoDe Lab for Ages 5-12

Saturdays, March 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, 1:00 p.m., Downtown Library


Scientists from Cal State East Bay are coming to the library to play research games with kids! Children (5-12 years old) will have an opportunity to play a short game with a researcher, contribute to science, and win prizes.

Family Fun Art Class: Celebrating Women's History Month 美術親子時光

Saturday, March 8, 1:00 p.m., Downtown Library


Discover your colors and shapes inspired by Elaine de Kooning and Perle Fine! Using oil pastels and pencils, you'll create your own masterpiece.


Geared towards kids ages 5-12, this class encourages parents and caregivers to draw alongside their children. It promises quality family fun for everyone! This is a series of programs in collaboration with Hayward Arts Council.

We offer a variety of storytimes for little learners! Most are in English but we also offer Spanish and Mandarin bilingual storytimes. All of our storytimes help children develop early literacy skills through reading, singing, writing, talking, and playing.

Homework Support Center

Welcome back to the HSC! Bring your kids, grades K-12, for support from trained volunteer tutors and college students. We work with students in small groups (5:1 ratio), directly on their homework assignments and projects. School supplies, computers, and free lunches are provided.


Once you register your kid, this free service is provided on a drop-in basis. Check it out!
