Good news! Discover & Go is back up and running. We thank you for your patience! Pick up where you left off and get right back in to summer planning.   

  

With your library card, you can get free and discounted tickets to local attractions, museums, zoos, and more. 


How Does It Work?

  • You must live in the City of Hayward and have a library card from the Hayward Public Library. 

  • You may have up to 2 reservations at a time.
  • The pass is for use only by the person named and only on the date specified. No photocopies are allowed. Valid ID is required.
  • Go to the Discover & Go home to view all available venues for your area.

If you do not live in the City of Hayward, you will need to visit the library in the city you live.

Puppet Art Theater: Goldilocks and the Three Sharks

Join Goldilocks the Mermaid as she explores a sunken ship that just happens to be the home of three sharks. Will she escape? Will she find adventure? Find out in Goldilocks and the Three Sharks. Two chances to watch this unique, black-light in the dark puppet show. 


Every adult and child must have a ticket for entry. Space is limited. 30 minutes before each show starts, tickets will be available at the Children’s Information Desks on a first come, first served basis until room capacity is reached. Tickets cannot be reserved in advance or held.

Codeward Special Tween Edition: Program a Robot Dog! 

Sat, July 11, 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Downtown Library


In this workshop, students aged 10-13 will build interest in robotics and gain experience in problem solving through working together to create a program to guide a robot dog through an obstacle course. They will collaborate and learn how to control a Bittle robot dog through block-based coding, led by the dynamic team from Codeward!

Research Games with CoDe (Cognitive Development) Lab

Sat, July 11, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Downtown Library


Scientists from Cal State East Bay are coming to the library to play research games with kids! Children, ages 7-12 will have an opportunity to play a short game with a researcher, contribute to science, and win prizes. 

  

This initiative is funded by the National Science Foundation and run by the Cognitive Development Lab where they study early precursors of scientific thinking, curiosity, and communication. 

  

If you have participated in the past - come again; they just rolled out a new game! No registration required.

JAMaRoo for Kids: Garden and Healthy Eating Music and Art Class

Wed, July 15, 12:30 p.m. - 1:15 p.m. Downtown Library 


Thurs, July 16, 12:30 p.m. - 1:15 p.m. Weekes Library 


JAMaRoo teachers will use bean bags, scarves, shakers, rhythm sticks, and other equipment to make classes more interactive and hands-on. This class will focus on gardening and healthy eating through music and art.

Lunch at the Library

Lunch at the Library


Check the calendar for dates and locations for free lunch, books, and more at the library! All youth under 18 years old are welcome to participate.


Lunch and activities are free. No sign-up, application, income verification, or identification needed. Meals are served to all youth on a first come, first served basis.


Lunch at the Library is provided in partnership with Hayward Public Library, California State Library, Hayward Unified School District and Lunch at the Library, through the USDA Food Service Program.

Holiday Closure: Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4


In observance of Independence Day, all library branches will be closed on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. Downtown and Weekes Library will resume normal hours on Tuesday, July 7.
