Tennyson Road corridor gets signal-timing upgrade—with Winton Avenue/D Street next in fall 2025 |

A Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAQMD) transportation grant is powering traffic signal improvements in the City of Hayward starting with Tennyson Road between Sleepy Hollow Avenue and Dixon Street.
The BAQMD Transportation Fund for Clean Air (TFCA) grant of $515,000, along with $297,600 in City matching funds, is paying for the installation of adaptive signal timing technology, which dynamically adjusts traffic signal patterns in real time based on traffic demands.
The upgrades should improve traffic flow and encourage safer, more consistent driving speeds, while also reducing vehicle idling times.
The adaptive signal timing upgrade for Tennyson Road was completed May 2. Construction to install fiber optic communication infrastructure for the Winton Avenue/D Street project (between Atherton and Santa Clara streets) is slated to start in June—with the adaptive signal timing to be implemented by September.
TFCA grants are distributed in Alameda County by the Alameda County Transportation Commission as program manager. |
