$2,000 in local rebates available for energy efficient water heater

The Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) and East Bay Community Energy (EBCE) are currently offering rebates up to $2,000 between you and your contractor when you invest in a heat pump water heater (HPWH). HPWHs are up to three times more efficient than gas-powered units, reducing your carbon footprint and resulting in additional savings on your monthly energy bills.

Hayward surpasses 2025 emission reduction target

According to Hayward’s 2020 greenhouse (GHG) inventory, published last month, Hayward achieved a 42.7 percent reduction in overall GHG emissions compared to 2005 levels--exceeding the City’s goal to reach a 30 percent reduction by 2025.

Hayward earns fourth recognition for environmental leadership among cities worldwide

Last week, Hayward was again recognized as one of 122 local governments worldwide and among five other jurisdictions in the San Francisco Bay Area on the 2022 CDP Cities A List for its leadership in environmental action. The CDP A-List designation marks the fourth time in five years that Hayward has earned the honor.

Hayward storm drains equipped to prevent litter from flowing to Bay

Last month, Hayward completed the installation of a new “trash capture device” in the Cotter Way storm drain. The new addition will join the City’s network of approximately 630 devices already installed throughout the stormwater system in an effort to keep litter from flowing into the San Francisco Bay.

Electric vehicle fast charging stations coming soon to downtown Hayward

The City is partnering with local power provider East Bay Community Energy (EBCE) to bring electric vehicle (EV) fast charging stations to municipal parking lots and garages in downtown Hayward. EBCE is funding the purchase and installation of the chargers, which can charge an EV in 20 to 50 minutes.
