The Hayward Police Department-led Car-a-van announced for Tuesday, July 25, as a kick-off of National Night Out festivities is not taking place, but the National Night Out event happening across the country will be observed in Hayward on Aug. 1.
National Night Out was established to enhance police-community relations and promote neighborhood camaraderie locally and across the country. During the event, which takes place nationally the first Tuesday in August, neighborhoods host events ranging from small potlucks and barbecues to large block parties.
Additional National Night Out event ideas include ice cream socials, disaster preparedness trainings, games, contests, food and clothing drives, neighborhood clean-up and beautification projects, and discussion or planning of a Neighborhood Watch Program.
In Hayward, neighborhood National Night Out gatherings will be taking place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1. Register your event here before Tuesday, July 25, to make Hayward police and other City of Hayward representatives aware and so they can stop by and say hello.
Or community members can just show their support for National Night Out by leaving their porch light on between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
