Hayward residents are invited to apply to serve on the Alameda County Civil Grand Jury and help carry out its watchdog role of acting as a check on the performance of local governmental in the county.
A Civil Grand Jury is impaneled each fiscal year by the Alameda County Superior Court to investigate local government for the purpose of ensuring public agencies are working in the interest of the public and doing so effectively and efficiently.
The Alameda County Superior Court currently is seeking a pool of 30 applicants—six from each of the County’s five Supervisorial Districts. Ultimately, 19 jurors will be selected randomly from this pool to be impaneled for the upcoming 2023-24 fiscal year starting July 1.
Information about qualifications and the application process can be found online here on the Alameda County Superior Court website. Participation entails attending at least two meetings per week for one year in Oakland.
Applications—also referred to as nominations—are accepted throughout the year, however, the Court’s current focus is to build a Civil Grand Jury for the upcoming fiscal year. To be considered for service on the 2023-24 Grand Jury, applications must be received no later than May 5.
