Special Two-Part Event with Author Alka Joshi

Saturday, May 3, 10:30 a.m.-12:00 noon and 12:15-1:30 p.m.

Join us for an unforgettable day with New York Times bestselling author of The Henna Artist, Alka Joshi, as we celebrate the release of her highly anticipated new standalone novel, Six Days in Bombay

Advance registration is required. Please register HERE

In this captivating new novel, Alka Joshi tells a powerful story of identity and self-discovery, inspired by the life and works of the iconic Hungarian-Indian painter Amrita Sher-Gil, often referred to as the “Frida Kahlo of India.” Alka will share behind-the-scenes insights into her creative process and the journey behind the story.

The Hayward Public Library, in partnership with the Friends of the Hayward Library, is offering two exciting opportunities for our community to meet and engage with the author:

1. Pours & Pastels Party (limited availability, ages 16+), 10:30 a.m.-12:00 noon

Inspired by the novel's main character, a famous half-Indian painter, this hands-on event invites attendees to create their own oil pastel artwork (art reference for drawing is attached), guided by talented artist Hetal Anjaria. Unleash your creativity, while sipping on a handcrafted mocktail or other non-alcoholic beverage, and immerse yourself in the artistic atmosphere.

  • Ticket Price: $50 (includes a signed copy of Six Days in Bombay and all art supplies).
  • This intimate gathering will offer a unique opportunity to connect with Alka Joshi in a more personal setting in the latter part of the program.
  • Register HERE

2. Author Talk and Book Signing (free event, all ages) 12:15-1:30 p.m.
Join us for an inspiring hour with Alka Joshi, where she will discuss her new book, answer questions from the audience, and provide a book signing session.

  • Ticket Price: FREE, but requires registration for tickets
  • Books will be available for purchase on-site, or you may bring your own copy for signing
