City of Hayward to hold first public hearing tonight on move to district elections for Council 

The City of Hayward is initiating a process to move from at-large to a district-based system of elections for City Council starting in 2026—with the first public hearing on the topic scheduled to take place this evening starting at 5:30 p.m. 

Hayward now accepting City commission applications from Hayward residents 

The City of Hayward has opened its annual recruitment period for applicants to serve on three City commissions—with service on these City Council-appointed bodies now open to all residents. 

Annual Hayward Freedom Celebration Saturday, June 22, to lead City’s Juneteenth observances

Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States, will be observed in Hayward with a downtown event featuring live music along with exhibits and programs at Hayward Public Library during the month of June.

Spring Compost Giveaway returns Saturday, May 18 

The City of Hayward Spring Compost Giveaway returns this Saturday, May 18, in the parking lot of the Skywest property adjacent to Hayward Executive Airport, 1401 Golf Course Road, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
