New apartments for very low-income seniors opening soon in Hayward 

Hayward Senior Commons, a new 100-percent-affordable housing development, will begin accepting applications starting today from very low-income seniors who are interested in participating in a lottery for an opportunity to rent an apartment in the complex. The deadline to apply to participate in the lottery is July 29. 


Located at 22500 Grand Street, Hayward Senior Commons will consist of 79 one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartments with rents ranging from $876 to $1,460, and is situated one block from the downtown Hayward BART Station. 


Apartments in Hayward Senior Commons are restricted to people who are 55 years of age and older with maximum annual incomes of up to $55,950 for a one-person household, $63,950 for a two-person household and $71,950 for a three-person household. 


Applications to join the lottery can be submitted through an online portal at https://wearecch.org/applications-hayward-2025. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, July 29. The lottery is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 1, and will be used to establish a ranked order of individuals who will be invited to apply for one of the apartments starting on Monday, Aug. 11, until all of the units are filled.
