Storytimes at the Weekes Branch

Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, Weekes Branch


The Weekes Branch is hopping! Music and Movement and Saturday Storytime are for all young kids, and Preschool Stories is just right for kids age 3-5.

Downtown Storytimes 

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, Downtown Library


Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we offer storytimes at the Downtown Library. On Tuesdays, Ms. Martha gets your kids' feet moving with Music and Movement. On Thursdays she hosts a bilingual English/Spanish storytime for kids who speak either or both languages. And on Wednesdays, kids can join Ms. Wenny for a storytime in Mandarin Chinese.

Celebrate with Dance: Celebrating Black History Month 以舞為慶黑人歷史月 

Saturday, February 7, 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., Downtown Library


Join us in celebration of Black History Month featuring a dance performance by Dimensions Dance Theater (DDT). "Every rehearsal, every drumbeat, and every performance carries the stories of our ancestors and the hope of the next generation". This dynamic 45-minute program will include Jazz, Hip Hop, West African, and Contemporary dance, along with fun audience participation that invites everyone to move and connect.   


The program is free for all ages and no registration is required.    


This event is supported by the Hayward Friends of the Library.

Lunar New Year Celebration 2026 馬到成功慶新年! 

Saturday, February 14, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Downtown Library


Celebrate Lunar New Year at the library! This year’s celebration will feature a vibrant Korean traditional dance performance by Hansamo, and a Chinese traditional instrumental music performance by Tiffany Liu. Children will be receiving red envelopes at the end of the show. The event is free to attend for all ages.

Codeward: Scratch Coding and Animation for Kids  

Saturday, February 14, 1:00 p.m., Downtown Library


Learn how to make games and animations with Scratch! No prior experience required. Bring your creativity to life on screen using simple drag-and-drop blocks. In this fun, beginner-friendly program, kids will turn their ideas into projects while building problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, led by the dynamic team from Codeward! 

  

Scratch accounts will be provided by the educators. Registration is required.

Homework Support Center

Need help with your homework? Our volunteer tutors are committed to assisting your child in understanding their homework in a safe, supportive environment. All K-12 students are welcome and a free healthy lunch is provided to each student, offered in partnership with HUSD.

Self-Defense Class for Kids: Twice a Month Now!

The 2nd Saturday of the month, 3:00 p.m., Downtown Library

Join us for a fun and empowering self-defense class designed specifically for kids ages 7 to 11!


Led by Sensei Anthony Thomas, a dedicated martial artist with experience dating back to 1979, this class focuses on realistic self-defense tactics that teach practical skills to help kids stay safe. In addition to self-defense, students will benefit from improved physical fitness, boosted confidence, and the development of discipline and focus.

February is Black History Month! Learn about Black Americans of the past and present and complete the worksheet to win a prize.

Drop by to play games on the Nintendo Switch or try a board game or tabletop game! Drop-In Gaming usually happens on the 1st Wednesday of each month.
