Application period for 2025 appointment to City commissions closing Aug. 1

The City of Hayward annual recruitment period for applicants to serve on five City commissions is closing soon—with applications to serve on these City Council-appointed bodies closing at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1.

Meetings of each of these bodies are currently held in person at Hayward City Hall, 777 B Street, Hayward, and we are currently recruiting to fill vacancies on and establish a list of alternates for the Clean and Green, Community Services, Library, Personnel and Planning commissions.

Service on these commissions is now open to all residents. In November 2020, Hayward voters expanded the opportunity to serve through passage of ballot Measure OO. Measure OO amended the City Charter to eliminate wording that had restricted commission service to people registered or eligible to be registered to vote—a requirement that had the effect of making non-citizens ineligible.

The specific role and scope of responsibilities and authority of commissioners vary by commission.

For more information—including a list of Council-appointed bodies, terms of current members, updated eligibility and service requirements and an application—go to the appointed bodies webpage on the City of Hayward website or contact the City Clerk’s Office at cityclerk@hayward-ca.gov or (510) 583-4400.
