The City of Hayward will begin repaving Mission Boulevard between A and Rose streets starting Thursday—a project that will run through the end of October and result in traffic delays along the corridor.
The repaving work, which will involve pavement grinding, recycling in place and an asphalt overlay, will require reducing traffic to one lane in each direction on Mission Boulevard. Temporary traffic controls will be in place and lane configurations will change to accommodate the work and keep traffic flowing.
The repaving is part of Phase 3 of the broader Mission Boulevard Corridor Improvement Project, which includes the undergrounding of overhead utility lines, reconstruction of existing sidewalks, curbs and gutters, construction of new bike lanes, landscaping and lighting enhancements and the introduction of flashing beacons and bulb-outs at crosswalks.
The completed first phase of the Mission Boulevard Corridor Improvement Project ran from A Street to Industrial Parkway. The completed second phase ran from Industrial Parkway to the southern border of Hayward at Blanche Street.
