Hayward is Home, Part 1: Hidden Garden

Friday, September 8, 3:00 p.m., Downtown Library

Hayward Library is pleased to host "Hidden Garden: A Japanese American Family's Offer of Friendship Honors Culture and Beauty in 20th Century Hayward," a community conversation about the historic Shibata family garden and tea house. (Not the tea garden you're thinking of! This one is "hidden" on Industrial.) The featured speaker will be Naomi Shibata, whose grandparents founded the garden and the Mt. Eden Floral Company over 100 years ago.

"Hidden Garden" is part of the Hayward is Home local history series created by CSUEB History Chair Bridget Ford and her students with support from Cal Humanities. Also part of the series: an October 6 conversation about local media Country Press and Barrio Expressions, and a November 3 talk about the creation of the Hayward Shoreline.

Light refreshments will be served.

This event is made possible with support from California Humanities, Cal State East Bay, and the Hayward Area Historical Society.
