Weekes Branch Library

Join us at the Weekes Branch Library for the latest installment of Hayward Public Library's "Many Voices" series! On Saturday, November 18 we'll discuss her award-winning novel, Daughters of Smoke and Fire. And on Saturday, December 2 the author herself will join us to discuss her book with literary critic and author Jennifer Carson.

Book Discussion Group

Saturday, Nov. 18, 2:00 p.m.

Weekes Branch Library

Librarian Melesha Owen will be facilitating a special book discussion group of Ava Homa's Daughters of Smoke and Fire.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, "Daughters of Smoke and Fire is a heart-wrenching narrative about how oppression, political persecution and racism slowly destroy a Kurdish family. Full of powerful writing and crushing violence that reflects the reality Kurds face every day, this novel is also a literary event that merits attention: It's the first to be published in English by a female Kurdish writer."
