Research Games with CoDe Lab (for ages 5-12)

Saturday, August 2, 12:00-3:00 p.m., Downtown Library

Scientists from Cal State East Bay are coming to the library to play research games with kids! Children (5-12 years old) will have an opportunity to play a short game with a researcher, contribute to science, and win prizes.

This initiative is funded by the National Science Foundation, and run by the Cognitive Development Lab where we study early precursors of scientific thinking, curiosity, and communication.

If you have participated in the past, come again; we have just rolled out a new game!

Storytime at Southland Mall

Join us for a special storytime at Southland Mall (Food Court)! It'll be 30 minutes of stories, songs, and movement activities. 

Codeward: Animate Your Own Characters!

Friday, August 8, 1:00-2:30 p.m., Downtown Library

Learn how to make games and animations with Scratch! No prior experience required. Bring your creativity to life on screen using simple drag-and-drop blocks. In this fun, beginner-friendly program, kids will turn their ideas into projects while building problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, led by the dynamic team from Codeward!

This session’s project: Animate Your Own Characters! Scratch accounts will be provided by the educators.

Financial Literacy Workshop for Teens

Need to know more about how to save and grow your money as a teenager?

Presented by Patelco Credit Union, this workshop will give teens the tools to become well versed in financial literacy, while learning how to make smart decisions with your money and avoid fraud.

This workshop is free and geared toward middle & high school students.

Have a piece of clothing that needs repair? Interested in learning some new hand sewing skills? Join us for a visible mending workshop! Darning, needle felting, sashiko, and other means of mending will be covered.

We'll have needles and thread; you bring the clothes you want to mend. Darn it! Let's have a patch party!
