Weekes Branch Grand Reopening Celebration

Saturday, August 16, 3:00-5:00 p.m., Weekes Branch Library

Hayward Public Library is pleased to announce the reopening of the Weekes Branch in South Hayward!

Join us for a formal ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the recent Weekes Branch renovation. This targeted and impactful renovation focused on preventing further decline of this aging facility and compassionately reenvisioning several of its public spaces, while working within a limited budget.

Interior improvements include fresh paint; removal and replacement of worn and damaged carpeting, furniture, and bookshelves and shelving; and the installation of new and updated technology in the Community Meeting Room, including a high-tech display screen and AV equipment. Exterior improvements include fencing, landscaping, and safety enhancements, for the overall creation of a sense of place.

Through a unique and innovative collaboration with the Hayward Arts Council and Hayward Unified School District, the Weekes Branch now boasts an art gallery that will host rotating local art displays. The branch will also include a long-requested Friends of Hayward Library Bookstore, which will support library programs through the sale of gently-used and like-new books.

The City of Hayward authorized the use of Community Development Block Grant funds and special revenue sources such as grants from Hayward Promise Neighborhoods, the Friends of Hayward Library, and a donation from the Donna L. & Edward E. Martins Foundation to fund these much-needed improvements at the branch.

Please join us for an afternoon full of celebration, donor acknowledgement, live performances, and a sneak preview of the renovated space, which will be fully open and operational starting on Monday, August 18th, at 10:00 AM.
