Community Hub: Recreation and After School Programs with DSAL

Get help with enrolling in free, after-school, recreational sports and summer fitness camps for kids with the Alameda County Deputy Sheriff’s Activities League (DSAL). Visit DSAL every 1st Friday.

Free diaper giveaways for families! 1 free kit per child with diapers in sizes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. No library card or registration is required, just show up. Line starts at the entrance of the C Street side of the Downtown Library.

Learn self-defense while having fun with Sensei Anthony Thomas. This class is designed specifically for kids ages 7-11 years old. Don’t forget to register, fill out a waiver form, wear comfortable clothes, and most importantly, have fun.

Weekes Branch 


Follow the music to The Weekes Branch! Music and Movement and Saturday Storytime are for all young kids, and Preschool Stories is just right for kids age 3-5.

Downtown Library 


Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we offer storytimes at the Downtown Library. On Tuesdays, Ms. Martha gets your kids' feet moving with Music and Movement. On Thursdays she hosts a bilingual English/Spanish storytime for kids who speak either or both languages. And on Wednesdays, kids can join Ms. Wenny for a storytime in Mandarin Chinese.

Come join us for a monthly Ukulele Strum Along! Strummers of all ages and levels are welcome. Bring your own ukulele or check one out at the library!

In observance of César Chávez Day, all library branches will be closed on Tuesday, March 31.
