Fall Storytime Schedule

Starting September 5, our fall storytime schedule will be in effect! There will be storytimes either downtown or at the Weekes Branch just about every day, including Saturdays. Check it out:

Homework Support Centers

Various days and locations, starting September 11

Kids in grades K-12 can get FREE homework help in a safe, welcoming environment! Volunteer tutors assist students with all homework needs in small groups. There are Homework Support Centers at the Downtown Library and Weekes Branch as well as some HUSD campuses.

HPL Recommends: Back to School Read-Alouds

Whether your kid has just had their first day at school, is the new kid, or is just getting back into the rhythm of the school year, there's something here for them. Teen Advisory Group (TAG)

Wednesday, September 6, 4:30 p.m., Downtown Library

What's TAG? A group of teens that meets once a month to give feedback about the library and plan library events! TAG participants get to have a say in what the library offers for teens and gain leadership experience that looks great on college & job applications. 

Teen Journaling Hour

Monday, September 11, 5:45 p.m., Weekes Branch

All teens are welcome to take some time on the first Monday of every month to set up their journal or planner for the month! Whether you have a bullet journal, a junk journal, or just a homework planner, you're welcome to come in to this drop-in event.

Teen Poetry Workshop

Wednesday, September 20, 4:30 p.m., Downtown Library

Are you a poetry writer, or do you want to get started with poetry? Meet up with other teen poets to get inspired & workshop your poetry--all levels welcome! This event is presented in partnership by the Hayward Library, Hayward Arts Council, and Hayward Youth Poet Laureate.

Got homework? We can help! If you can get to the library after school, you can get free in-person help at the Homework Support Center. If you can't make it to the library, though, never fear! We have tons of free online resources, including databases for research and live help at tutor.com. All you need is a Hayward library card.

HPL Recommends: 10 Teen Books You May Have Missed

With so many amazing YA novels being published recently, it's easy to miss some! Here are 10 YA books you may have missed that are worth checking out. These books are geared towards teens but may be enjoyed by adults too. Check them out:

The library will be closed on Monday, September 4 for Labor Day and Saturday, September 9 for California Admission Day

But you can use our online resources 24/7/365! Download an ebook or audiobook; stream a movie; learn a new language or how to repair your car; get help with homework or do some research. All you need is a Hayward library card!

The Downtown Library only will be closed on Thursday, September 28.

But the Weekes Branch will be open as usual! Both branches will be open as usual on Friday, September 29.
