Applications are now being accepted from low- and extremely low-income individuals and households to move into one of the most complete expressions of newly constructed affordable supportive housing ever to open in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The new residential community of 125 micro studio apartments at 2595 Depot Road in Hayward is a partnership of the City of Hayward and Allied Housing, the affordable housing development arm of nonprofit Abode Services, which will operate the property.
Nearly half of the approximately 300-square-foot units are designated for individuals and two-person households experiencing homelessness and extremely low-income, and who have been referred through the Alameda County Office of Homeless Care and Coordination Coordinated Entry System.
The new residence, called Depot Community Apartments, is otherwise reserved for individuals and two-person households with incomes of between 30 and 60 percent of the Area Medium Income for Alameda County—$31,080 to $62,160 for individuals and $35,520 to $71,040 for two-person households.
The property will have on-site management, including a resident manager, shared laundry facilities, activity and community rooms, outdoor recreation spaces, including a basketball court, picnic and barbecue areas, a dog park, and a community garden.
Residents will be supported with wrap-around services including on-site social workers, case management, and supportive workshops and classes—and the residence is situated next to Cronin House, a state-licensed drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.
Environmental features of Depot Community Apartments include solar-power generation, high-efficiency lighting and appliances and water-conserving landscaping and plumbing fixtures.
In the final stages of construction, development of Depot Community Apartments was made possible in part through City of Hayward allocation of its entire $18 million share of Alameda County Measure A1 affordable housing funds and $6 million in Hayward affordable housing trust funds.
