The Hayward Fire Department is bringing back in-person Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training for members of the public and has openings in its summer course session starting Tuesday, Aug. 30.
The CERT program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.
The program is intended to provide a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, ideally freeing them up and allowing them to focus on more complex tasks.
To learn more and potentially register for the next in-person, five-class CERT course starting on Aug. 30, visit the CERT page here on the Hayward Fire Department website or contact the Fire Department public education officer at (510) 583-4948.
The course is free of charge with the only related expense involving the updating of one’s disaster supply kit at home. The next in-person CERT course is the Fall 2022 session beginning Oct. 18. A hybrid, self-directed, mostly online version initiated during the COVID-19 pandemic also is continuing to be offered. |
