Earth Day 2025 Citywide Clean-Up and Community Fair 

Join the City of Hayward for a special Earth Day and help the City with its Annual Citywide Clean-Up and Community Fair on April 26th, 2025, at Weekes Park. The community will come together to pick-up litter throughout the City and visit sustainability themed booths with family-friendly activities at the community fair. Make sure to sign up to be a volunteer to receive a free lunch!

Hayward Rides Program Introduction

The City of Hayward is excited to launch Hayward Rides, a program designed to provide residents with access to free bicycles, helping to make cycling a more accessible, affordable, and sustainable transportation option. Funded through the California Air Resource Board’s Clean Mobility in Schools and Sustainable Transportation Equity Project grant programs, Hayward Rides is one of the largest municipal bike programs in the country. The program aims to support residents and youth, especially those in disadvantaged and low-income communities, by providing bicycles and essential safety equipment.

East Bay Induction Cooktop Lending Program Returns

The City of Hayward is excited to partner with Acterra to bring back the East Bay Induction Cooktop Lending program. This program allows East Bay residents to reserve and borrow an induction cooktop to try out at home. Those who sign up can borrow induction cooktop kits for up to 3 weeks at no cost. Residents can pick up the induction cooktop kits at six different partner locations, including Hayward City Hall.

Food Scrap Sorting Benefits

Garbage can be a smelly nuisance. However, the majority of those odors actually come from a single source: food that has been thrown away. When food is separated into a compost pail, the garbage container is left with mostly inert material that is not a bother. Lining the compost pail with something like a paper towel (no plastic bags!) will keep it cleaner between uses. The benefits of separating waste extend far beyond avoiding garbage can odors, as the food scraps are turned into compost.

However, some cleaning products contain chemicals such as chlorine, quaternary ammonia compounds, and phthalates and can cause negative health impacts over time, as well as pollute the environment. BAWSCA Water Efficient Landscaping Classes

Register for Events

The Alameda Countywide Clean Water Program is accepting grant applications for up to $6,000 per project to encourage grassroots community action that prevents stormwater pollution and enhances the health of local watersheds, creeks, and the San Francisco Bay. Projects must be implemented in Alameda County.


Submission deadline is May 9, 2025, 5PM (PST).
