For example: Public Comment for March 26 Meeting - Item No.10
Meeting Safety: On February 20, 2024, five to six individuals attending the Hayward City Council meeting online used the public comment period to deliver hateful expressions of antisemitism, anti-Black racism, and White supremacy. In each instance, Mayor Mark Salinas used his authority to shut down the commentary as the language crossed the line into being abusive, discriminatory, threatening, and profane.
In response, the City of Hayward temporarily suspended online public comment during Council meetings. The March 26, 2024, Hayward City Council Meeting will be the first time in several weeks that members of the public have the opportunity to provide remote public comment.
The Russell City Reparative Justice Project agenda and/or the return of remote public comment may draw participation from a variety of people. City administration and the City Council take the safety of public meetings seriously and we are committed to making sure the work session creates a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for public engagement.
We hope to see you soon.
