Hayward City Hall to display green lights in rotunda to celebrate Veteran’s Day

Photo of a sign that reads 'Thank You Veterans' surrounded by the American flag.

The interior of the Hayward City Hall rotunda will be illuminated in green at night from Nov. 4 to Nov. 11 in recognition of Veteran’s Day.

Hayward’s display is part of a larger initiative, Operation Green Light for Veterans, which asks America’s municipalities to light buildings green to recognize veterans for their service. Operation Green Light is a program of the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers.

The Alameda County Veterans Affairs Commission encourages county residents to participate by changing one light bulb at their homes green to encourage discussions between family, friends or even bystanders that see green shining through your window.

Hayward City Hall will illuminate the rotunda in green by 5 p.m. each day of the week. For more about Operation Green Light, visit the National Association of Counties website here.
