We want to remind community members to please complete the Russell City Redress Fund Survey by Friday, Oct. 3.

The Russell City Redress Fund exists because families of Russell City were forcibly displaced in the 1960s, losing their homes, community, and sense of belonging. This fund is one step toward acknowledging the harm and contributing to the process of repair.

To begin this work, $1.2 million has been pledged with support from the Hayward City Council, Alameda County Supervisors Elisa Márquez, Nate Miley, David Haubert, Nikki Fortunato Bas, and the Alameda County Office of Education.

Earlier communications said eligibility details for the fund would be shared by September 2. We’ve since recognized that eligibility is such an important first step that it must be shaped by listening to the voices of Russell City families themselves. While past conversations have guided this work, this survey is a focused step to gather input specifically on eligibility criteria before any decisions are made.

The results of the survey will directly shape eligibility and guide how funds are used to honor Russell City’s legacy.
